A great recreation area
Der Werbellinsee ist ein 756 ha großer und bis zu 60 m tiefer Binnensee, der von zahllosen Quellen gespeist wird. Sein Wasser ist sehr rein. 12 km ist der See lang und bis zu 1,2 km breit. Das Gewässer liegt im Zentrum der Schorfheide, einem Waldgebiet mit fast 25.000 ha Fläche und üppiger Tier- und Pflanzenwelt. Die Ufer sind überwiegend dicht bewaldet. Dieser Wald und seine Feuchtbiotope bieten heute seltenen Tieren wie Biberwaschbären und Wasservögeln wie Seeadler, Kranich, Fischreiher und dem vom Aussterben bedrohten Eisvogel Schutz und Lebensraum zugleich.

The charter boat (solar boat) takes about 2.5 hours to travel lengthwise across Lake Werbellinsee.
You need about 90 minutes from Altenhof (about the middle of the Werbellinsee) to the starting point of the Werbellinsee charter.
The water ski track is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at km 17 - 18 on the eastern shore of the lake.
Continue along the east bank towards Altenhof this is found EJB, formerly Pioneer Republic Wilhelm Pieck. The facility was inaugurated on July 16, 1952 by the then President of the GDR, Wilhelm Pieck. Up to 1,000 children spent their holidays here at the same time.
The 1.1 km² area extends from km 15 - 16.5. There are very good anchoring and bathing opportunities near the shore. There are numerous restaurants and cafés in the following town of Altenhof.
From km 13.5 - 11.5 the shore is criss-crossed by reed and forest areas.
From kilometer 11.5, the “Süßer Winkel” campsite follows.
If you continue to follow the east shore, you will find the exit from the Werbellinsee to the Oder-Havel canal via two locks.
The cafe Wildau and the Campingplatz am Spring are on the western shore of the lake. Immediately after the campsite at kilometer 12, a building can be seen in the bay right by the water. It belongs to the hunting lodge Hubertus Stock and was used by Erich Honecker at the time.
